Boredom in the Platonic Cave of Black Mirror

Is there an exit via critique?

In the first series of Black Mirror we find an episode of a rather likely future Dystopia that plays with the powerful image of Plato’s Cave and its reemergence in the technological age.

This lecture delves into the phenomenon of deep boredom and horror of our epoch and draws on Kant, Heidegger, and Hegel to provide a reading of pop-cultural phenomena going beyond mere critique. For critique itself is not only incapable of finding an exit but indeed necessary for the machinic system’s stranglehold on power.
